Summer Through the Eyes of a Runner.

The wind whips through my hair as the boat speeds along towards the shore in the midday sun, the sweat drips from my elbows as I am out for an early run as the sun finishes rising, the smell of fresh cut grass and fire mingle in the late summer night; and us, well we are together, laughing, talking, and just sitting next to each other in silence.

Though independence is nice at times, not having to check-in or organize schedules around each other it is not nearly as much fun. Whenever I come home anymore it feels like a vacation, a beautiful break from school and the hecticness of Penn and time to just do life with the people who have cared and supported me in my 21 years.

Being home for these six days have been magical, full of field trips, fires, graduation parties, boat trips, country runs, family meals, introductions, reunions with old friends, movies, and laughs all around.

As I sit here on the porch swing in the summer breeze writing this I am reminded how lucky I am and how much the Lord has blessed me with family and friends. Yes, I may not have had the most normal childhood growing up with my siblings in the same house we were born in, or living with my entire family, but you know, I wouldn’t have changed that for the world. I am blessed with two parents who love me, two brothers who I know would be there if I ever needed anything, grandparents who are always willing to go out of their way to help, and a Father who loves me and forgives me of everything I have ever done or thought that was wrong.

It is summer, for these 6 days the living is easy.

Later on today I will venture down to South Carolina to move in with my grandparents where I will be spending the summer working as a waitress at a top resort and a wedding planner and bridal consultant intern. I am so excited to see what lessons the Lord teaches me this summer, the ways he will use me, and how I will grow. I was sad for a moment about the less than glamorous “income” job I obtained this summer as all my peers put on their suits, tie their ties and head into the office in NYC but then I remember, God didn’t make me for those jobs. He made me to serve others, so I pray I can do that well, even in the simplest of ways.

Summer is here. The sun warms my face and my soul.
