Simplification Through the Eyes of a Runner.

In less than 7 hours I will be boarding a flight to Los Angeles, where I will then transfer to a direct flight to Sydney, Australia and then catch a connection to MELBOURNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are three cities I have never been to and in two days I will have been in all three! The journey puts me in Melbourne at 9:35 am on Friday. There is a 14 hour time difference and 26 hours and 35 minutes of travel time! More than 22 of those hours are flying…

So packing. Packing. Packing. Packing.

It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought!

I fit all my clothes and shoes in one suitcase which weighs in at 44 pounds! And just cause I’m allowed two checked bags, I’m also bringing a small duffle bag. And then of course, my carry on.

How did I do it?

I honestly don’t know!

I ironed then rolled up all my clothes, which definitely saved space!

Then shoes went in first.

And then from that my rolled clothes got stacked and situated! And here we are! Finished product!

I ended up taking 3 pairs of flats, 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of boots, 1 pair of heels, and running shoes. 17 tops, 11 dresses, 2 pairs of shorts, 5 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of leggings, 2 workout shorts, 4 cardigans, 4 scarves, winter hat, winter gloves, raincoat, leather jacket, 2 bathing suits, a fleece. Along with undergarments. This is what my wardrobe will consist of for 5 months and two and a half seasons!

And honestly, I think I’m content with that.

Simplification, that is my first lesson on this journey that takes me around the globe.

Melbourne Here I come!! Here is to many more lessons, adventures, and joy! Cheerio!

  1. Kudos to you!! I would have like 12 more suitcases to ad. I am in no way a simple packer. I’m always like omgsh what if I need this or this or this? Gotta have options. Cannot wait to hear about your journey!!! 🙂

  2. I should probably try rolling my clothes when I pack. I am usually really good with fitting a lot of stuff into a small suitcase and organizing it, but when I need to look for something, man I’m screwed.

  3. That is a LOT to pack! Well done! I’ve finally got the hang of fitting all my shit into two carryon size suitcases (one I bought and one I was given) and a backpack. My method is pretty much the same as yours, only I have to account for my tripod and hair dryer (I like to use the straightener head because it’s faster) and my photography equipment. Still not sure I could pack as many shoes as you did though!
